I had toe surgery last week, which ended up being kind of a mess. I had to cancel all my site meetings due to my inability to walk/ stand (which was unexpected) and so we came up to the house to work remotely for a week. The timing was good as I had a relatively quiet week. We also have guests coming to stay in July (with a backyard BBQ for 25) so I was able to hobble around the house and argue with my husband about what we needed to buy/ do/ fix before hosting (ha).
We bought some outdoor furniture (we already have some of these in green gray) and I really need to buy one last set of bedside tables ASAP as the one bedroom without them is the only other bedroom besides ours that has AC. I would prefer to buy something antique but need these like yesterday and don’t have time to shop.
What is really gnawing at me are all the things sitting around the house that need to be hung on the walls. I am nosey about these kinds of things and I bet you are too, so let’s have a look.
I had this illustration that I ripped out of an old book framed locally. The frame and matting board are totally not my style and I love them so much. I think this may end up in the downstairs stair hall?
This print is from an 1876 book about the World’s Fair and I bought it ages ago in Rhinebeck. I don’t mind the old age spots and I love the old floor patterns. No clue where this is going.
Look! The mirror we all know and love. I wanted to chart out where screws might need blocking in the wall this week but that didn’t happen due to the foot. Definitely going in the living room.
We found this plate from the late 1800s in the barn. The Brooklyn Museum has something from this line in their collection! I want to hang this in our room but need to find something similar for symmetry around a pair of windows…
These were my grandmother’s and I just had them reframed. She bought them from an NYC shop in the 1970s. The lithographs were done by Nathalie Chabrier, a Parisian artist, in that same decade. The first is Amsterdam and the second is Paris. Super retro and not everyone’s taste but I love them. She just gifted them to me when she downsized. These may land in my husband’s office, the dining or family room, or the upstairs stair hall. The colors work really well with the rug in the family room…
This is an old photo with my great-grandfather in it. Taken in Texas in the 1910s I believe. I LOVE framing old cardboard photos like this - floating as objects. I have some family portraits like this hanging upstairs. I think this will end up in a bedroom.
Another old family photo! This is a frame we found in the barn that we left as is but had revamped with glass and backing locally. Maybe in a bedroom??
And another! Same story as above.
I also have these, which need to be framed at some point…
…but I am going to wait until the other things are hung first. Plus we need more furniture and wallpaper before a lot of these things go up, I think!
Ideally we get at least four pieces hung before the middle of July. I think that’s a reasonable plan…
Love everything. I am also a big fan of framing old book pages ;)
Wow, ok. I just checked Etsy and found my plate's twin!! Purchased.
